Representative Tom DeLay (R-TEX) was arrested, booked and fingerprinted on Thursday on charges of state criminal conspiracy and money laundering (mug shot at The Smoking Gun). DeLay’s camp has accused Ronnie Earle, the Travis County DA who filed the charges, of mounting a politically motivated attack on the former majority leader.
While the arrest warrant is not necessarily a personal attack on the congressman, CNN political analyst told CNN’s Lou Dobbs that when a warrant is issued in Texas after an indictment, “it is usually, but not always, a formality.”
However, in many white-collar cases, Toobin said, the defense attorney and the prosecutor work out a surrender time for the defendant without a warrant being issued.
Regardless of the reasoning, let the fucker dangle!
