The Rabbi Report‘s first ever “Stupid Bastard Award” goes to Ipswich, England’s own Bernie Ecclestone. The president and CEO of Formula One Management and Formula One Administration, Ecclestone owns such large percentage shares of the companies that make up Formula One that he’s considered the de factor head of the circuit. You might say he’s like the Karl Rove of F-1. But less evil and more, well, stupid.
On Sunday he was asked by WRTV in Indianapolis about his opinion of Indy 500 breakout star Danica Patrick and he replied:
“Yep, she did a good job, didn’t she? Super. Didn’t think she was going to make it.”
Nothing wrong with that, right?
Clearly that wasn’t enough for the Stupid Bastard. Before walking away, he continued: “You know, I’ve got one of these wonderful ideas that women should be all dressed in white, like all the other domestic appliances.”
Not only that, but according to the Associated Press, in 2000 Ecclestone told Autosport racing magazine that women could not compete in Formula One, but that if one did, “she would have to be a woman who was blowing away the boys. … What I would really like to see happen is to find the right girl, perhaps a black girl with super looks, preferably Jewish or Muslim, who speaks Spanish.”
This is so remarkably stupid that we here at The Rabbi Report think Ecclestone deserves not only the first-ever Stupid Bastard award, but until further notice, the award will be known as the “Bernie.”
What a berk.
I don’t know about you, but I like her in blue, don’t you?
