"Aged" Collina Gets One Year Extension
Funny-looking and unfailingly brilliant Italian referee Pierluigi Collina and his colleagues were granted a one-year reprive by the Italian Football Federation (FIGC). Partially rectifying their absurd rule requiring football referees to retire at the age of 45, the FIGC have changed their rules stating that referees may now complete the season that begins in the year in which they turn 45, which Collina did in February of this year. Why not go further and simply give refs a physical test and detailed eye exam at the beginning of each season and let them continue until they can no longer meet the standards required?
Doesn't Collina look like Michael Berryman from Weird Science?

I had the good fortune to watch PierLuigi officiate the Italian Super Cup match between Juventus and AC Milan a couple years ago. He was so ggod that you couldn't help noticing his effectiveness.
