Upcoming Brilliance

Shatnersmall170.jpgYou may not believe me. In fact, I am rather certain you won’t. However, after listening to only 2 songs, I am ready to proclaim William Shatner’s upcoming CD “Has Been” the magnum opus of a long misunderstood genius. Sure you’ve got Star Trek. Some (not I) have a soft spot in their hearts for the absurd donut-eating spectacle that is T.J. Hooker. The Priceline ads do, I will admit, have a certain charm and hipness quotient about them. Even some of you will admit to the kitch value of Bill’s…uh…original take on songs like “Mr. Tambourine Man,” “Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds” and even “It Was a Very Good Year.” His version of Hamlet’s soliloquy is, I will admit, unforgivable.
I have to admit, I have only heard 2 cuts off “Has Been.” The duet version of Pulp’s “Common People” with none other than the legendary Joe Jackson is , without being hyperbolic, transcendent. Shatner’s line readings are nothing other than pitch-perfect, matching the tone and politics of the song exactly. The other song I have heard, “I Can’t Get Behind That,” is a duet rant on current politics and society with punk and spoken word legend Henry Rollins set to 50’s era jazz riffs and man, it’s a gas. I mean it’s real gone, Daddio!
Lest you think this is all a joke I implore you., find a way to hear the two songs I have mentioned (the only 2 I have been able to download) and I am willing to bet you’ll run out and buy the CD. I know I will.
Let’s say you do this and decide that maybe buying this cd is a good idea, well then click Here
